Poetry and Prose

Co-hosted by Heirloom Books, Poetry and Prose is a new series on North Clark. This event will feature poet-essayist Brooke Bergan and poet-playwright Michael Rychlewski. These acclaimed poets and friends will share their own words and prose from their favorites in a night that will be sure to delight and entertain.

About the Poets
Brooke Bergan is a poet, essayist, and translator. She has published three books of poetry: Windowpane and Distant Topologies (The Wine Press) and Storyville: A Hidden Mirror (Asphodel Press). Her work has also appeared in journals such as The Antioch Review, The American Pen, Another Chicago Magazine, Caribe, Poetry East, and Translation and in the collaborative blog Light Entwined. She was the literary editor for Private Arts Press and has taught creative writing at the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Newberry Library, and Lake Forest College. Brooke has a Ph.D. in creative writing from the University of Illinois at Chicago, which is where she first met Michael Rychlewski. She has been reading him ever since and is honored to be reading with him.

Michael Rychlewski is a playwright and poet. His poems have appeared in The Seattle Review, thescreamonline.com, Agora, museapprenticeguild.com, and Private Arts 8 & 9. His book of poems, Night Driving, was published by the Wine Press. In 2016 his play CHOPS ran for six weeks at Theatre Wit in Chicago. He has had many staged readings with theaters throughout the city. CHOPS was recommended for consideration for the America Theater Critics Association annual ATCA/Steinberg New Play Award, honoring new scripts produced outside New York. He is delighted to be reading with the critically acclaimed poet and critic (and dear friend) Brooke Bergan. He wishes to thank his wife, Jan, and his daughter, Claire.
